Today I want to discuss street parties for The Queen’s Jubilee as many customers are already organising events around the UK to commemorate this very special occasion. Many people don’t know that the actual date of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is Sunday 6th February 2022, but the Queen has personal reasons for not wanting to mark the occasion in February. We have previously written a blog called “Celebrate The Queen’s Jubilee With UK Tents” where we discussed our top tips how to decorate a marquee but Adam from Manchester submitted the following blog request:
Hi UK Tents I can see here on your news section you have written a blog about street parties and also a blog about marquee regulations but I would like to ask if you can write specifically about street parties for the Queen’s jubilee. For example will the restrictions ease for one day? Do I need planning permission and finally is it different rules in different areas?
Apply to hold a Street Party
Im sure you would agree that Adam has raised some important points and I want to address them by using the Gov website and our use experiences working along councils across the UK. The first thing you need to take into consideration is the size of the gathering and if it is to be considered as a large event you would need to: Apply to hold a street party. You don’t have to notify the council for smaller events but we advise you to check out: https://www.streetparty.org.uk/guide/street-meet/. As long as a street party really is held in a closed road and doesn’t cause traffic for the day or If you live in a cul-de-sac some councils waive the need for a road closure.
Why Choose UK Tents For Your Street Party?
UK Tents have 4 ranges of customisable marquees perfect for any street party. An entrance can be created by removing any of the window panels or you can use the zipped entrances designed at either gable end. Having sold tens of thousands party tents across the UK (many of them for street parties) our customers have reviewed over the years. We always welcome feedback on our service and our products and you can use: Google reviews, Trust Pilot and our very own product review section located on each product listing. We are proud to say the reviews are glowing which means you can buy in confidence.
Our marquees all come with UV resistance and they are all 100% waterproof making them ideal for any weather. Obviously we suggest you avoid erecting them in high winds and always take precautions.

Do I Need Planning Permission For A Marquee?
In 2014 the rules were crystal clear: “NO, as long as the marquee is not up for any longer than 28 days Planning permission is NOT required” Since COVID19 the rules have changed to enable businesses in hospitality to increase restaurant capacity. On the 20th December 2021 streets and local business benefited from rule changes, which mean’t markets can be held more often and marquees put up in pub and restaurant gardens without the need for planning permission.
Kate Nicholls CEO of UKHospitality said:
Marquees and other structures provided a lifeline for some businesses during the pandemic, evidencing the value of covered outdoor spaces to hospitality venues.
Today’s announcement is a really positive move to rid businesses of an administrative burden and encouraging better use of outdoor space – for many venues it will expedite future recovery and growth.
The size of the event will decide which restrictions still apply for street parties but if you plan to use a marquee for long or short term in your garden restrictions don’t apply. The Rules and regulations are updated regularly and we advise you to check on the current status on the government website.
