Are you ready for the Kings Coronation?
King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on 6th May 2023 with a long bank holiday weekend to follow for celebrations.
The weekend’s events are as follows –
- Saturday 6th May: Coronation service in Westminster Abbey; coronation procession; Buckingham Palace balcony.
- Sunday 7th May: Coronation Big Lunch street parties; concert and lightshow at Windsor Castle.
- Monday 8th May: Extra bank holiday; Big Help Out encouraging people to get involved in local volunteering.
Of course on the 6th May everyone will want to be sat in front of a big screen or the TV watching our new King take the crown. What a once in a lifetime experience to celebrate with your friends and family! Why not have them all round for a family viewing of the event together in the garden? Get prepared early, buy yourself a new marquee to put your big screen in and set it out like a cinema for the day. As typical British weather may occur during the weekend, it is always useful to be prepared with a marquee for cover. Why not decorate your marquee with British memorabilia and flags to get your guests in the celebrating patriotic feel!
Once the coronation is over on the 6th May, why not keep your marquee up and have a garden party! People who haven’t got a ticket for the concert on Sunday 7th May are being encouraged to have street parties and local get-togethers for the Coronation Big Lunch. Thousands of street parties were held to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 and the palace is encouraging similar events to take place in streets, gardens and parks in every corner of the UK this May. Why not get together with all of your neighbours, chip in for a marquee to put up in your local park or housing street to use for future events like this! A great way to get everyone together for a celebration.

The 8th May is all about helping our communities and local charities around us. A great idea would be to organise a local fate for small businesses and charities in your local area to be able to advertise and sell their products for free. There are also many other events you can put on to help the community that a marquee would come in handy for, for example, a local fun run raising money for charity, children’s fun day with games and activities in a marquee for parents that still need to work on a bank holiday or a pop up food bank for the local communities in need.
